For Spring Planting

Buckwheat: Produces an abundance of seed in 10 to 12 weeks. Grows fast in any type of soil and holds seed well on stalk after ripening.

Dove Proso Millet: Relished by all game birds, especially doves, Dove Proso grows 3 to 6 feet tall. Plants bend over as seed falls to the ground. The seed's shiny coat protects it from mold and mildew.

Brown Top Millet: A fast grower and heavy seed producer that provides excellent cover for game birds. The plant reaches 2 to 3 feet in height.

Japanese Millet: Also known as Wild or Duck millet. This fast-growing millet produces an abundance of seed and is excellent for mud flats, marshes and wet spots.

Wild Game Food (WGF) Sorghum: An excellent, all-purpose seed for attracting wildlife, especially birds. WGF''s tuber heads develop and grow as long as there is moisture—all the way to the first frost. No birds will touch it until ripe, and then birds of all feathers will arrive to eat.

Peredovik Sunflower: Plant these small black sunflower seeds, and half the birds in the county will eat lunch with you. The plants grow 4 to 5 feet tall. This is the most popular seed for attracting birds that Southern States sells.

Mixed Cowpeas: Small. Very attractive. Maroon in color. Hard seeded. Good for both game feed and soil improvement.

Crown Vetch: This is a perennial legume that spreads underground from rhizomes, seed and stolens. Will grow from Alaska to Africa. Excellent for beautification. Creates permanent ground cover, chokes out weeds. Quail, doves and deer love it.

Other varieties available on a special order basis:
Aeschynomene, Oro-Benne (Sesame), Partridge peas, Lathco flat peas, Sesbania, Bob-white soybeans, Chufa, Dwarf Extra Early corn, Egyptian wheat and wild rice seed.

For Fall or All-Year Planting

Bi-Color Lespedeza: This perennial is one of the best food and cover plants for game birds. The seeds are attractive, and the plant is also valuable for controlling soil erosion.

Kobe Lespedeza: An annual growing 4 to 4-1/2 feet tall, Kobe is planted for quail and dove. This attractive plant makes an excellent ground cover which controls erosion.

Korean Lespedeza: This reseeding annual grows 3 to 3-1/2 feet tall. Like Kobe, it aids in reducing soil erosion. Plant in patches and strips near bushes, wooded areas and water.
Trophy Plus Brand® Legume Mixture: An original formula specifically blended to provide permanent year-round food for wildlife. Whitetail deer and wild turkey are especially attracted to this clover/alfalfa mix.

Trophy Plus Brand's formula includes Regal Ladino clover, which grows more nutrient-rich forage and lush, leafier clover. Southern cattlemen have relied on Regal Ladino for decades. It remains leafy from early fall all the way through early spring or late summer, when most other clovers begin flowering. Regal Ladino grows on a wide range of Southern soil types and recovers fast from hot summers.

The improved formulation of Trophy Plus Brand also includes deep-rooted, protein-rich alfalfas. Not only is alfalfa drought tolerant and long-lasting because of its deep roots, but also the legume has been considered one of the premium forages in nutrition for all classes of animals. Grazing animals show a strong preference for alfalfa.

Wildlife Mix No. 1 is the perfect general-purpose food mix. It contains a blend of millets, lespedezas, soybeans, and grain sorghums for spring and early summer plantings. Wildlife Mix No. 1 provides nesting cover for game birds like quail, doves, wild ducks and geese, as well as food for wildlife like deer, wild turkey and rabbits.

Wildlife Mix No. 1 helps control erosion and adapts to the many different soil types in the Southern States region. Seeding rate: 1 bag per acre.

Wildlife Mix No. 2 is an all purpose mix for fall and winter planting providing the benefits of food and cover for wildlife while controlling erosion. Seeding rate: 1 bag per acre.
